Chem 402 — Thermodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Kinetics

This course covers statistical mechanics, chemical thermodynamics, and chemical kinetics.  A statistical mechanical treatment of quantized energy states will be developed to understand macroscropic properties. Classical thermodynamic relationships and processes will be derived and implemented.  Examples of these physical chemistry concepts will be applied to current physical and biophysical research in the chemistry department at Washington Univerisity.

Chem 5762 — Electron Paramagnetic Resonance and Dynamic Nuclear Polarization

Principles of magnetic resonance of paramagnetic species, structure, and dynamics of organic free radicals and transition metal ions in the condensed phase. Detection of transient paramagnetic species generated in photochemical reactions and photo-physical processes.
