Rita received a BA in Psychology and Cognitive Science from Northwestern University. After graduating, she moved to Los Angeles to work at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at UCLA. She is interested in the influence of early life stress on the development of the motivation and reward system. She is hopeful that a better understanding of the development of this system will lead to the identification of more targeted protective factors for at-risk youth.

In her free time, Rita loves thrift store shopping, baking, and going to amusement parks. She is also a serious horror movie fan.
