An NSF-Sponsored Workshop

Workshop Structure and Features

The workshop will comprise three one-day meetings approximately one year apart. Activities leading up to and including the first session will be aimed at pairing traditional cell biologists who wish to explore computational approaches as a means of augmenting their research with computational modelers who wish to apply their skills to cell biological questions. Participants will be asked to prepare for the year 1 meeting by reading a selection of essays and papers (for examples, see Karsenti et al. 2006; Mogilner et al. 2006; Drubin and Oster, 2010), and by writing brief (~500 word) descriptions of their research programs. The cell biologists will also be asked to complete project profile worksheets designed to help potential collaborators develop a plan for modeling and identify key pieces of needed data.
