Chelsey Carter

Anthropology
Entering Year: 2015

Chelsey earned her BA in anthropology (high honors) and minor in Spanish from Emory University in Atlanta, GA.  She is a St. Louis native with a demonstrated interest in issues surrounding access to healthcare, healthcare reform, chronic disease, death, and illness narratives & experience.

She hopes that her forthcoming project will demonstrate the ways in which ethnography and gender/race theory can examine the significance of intervention and understandings of public health and chronic disease problems.

A broad goal for her career in anthropology is to describe & understand behaviors/attitudes in order to determine the effects of culture, race, and social class on our understanding of chronic life limiting diseases, especially neurodegenerative diseases, like ALS. When not pursuing academic interest she enjoys cooking, reading, working out and traveling.
