Elissa Bullion

Anthropology
Entering Year: 2012

Elissa is pursuing her PhD in anthropology with a focus on archaeology. She grew up in eastern Massachusetts, and graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont. Her archaeological research has taken her many places around the world, including Peru, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, as well as various regions of the United States. Elissa will be conducting her dissertation research on a cemetery population from a medieval Silk Road city in the highlands of southern Uzbekistan. Her goal is to discuss how imperial institutions, such as Islam, interacted with and influenced local beliefs and identity to shape broader processes of early globalization across Central Asia and the wider Eurasian continent. In her spare time Elissa enjoys horseback riding, rock climbing, hiking, working on cars, and reading historical fiction.
