1. Can I audit a workshop?
Currently, no. Workshops are only offered as a for-credit class.
2. Why the schedule and time change?
Many of our attendees work full-time jobs. By condensing the format, and offering workshops in the evenings, and craft talks on the weekends, we hope to make Summer Writers Institute more convenient for participants.
3. How do I apply?
There is no application for SWI. Simply enroll as you would for any University College class.
4. What is a workshop exactly?
Workshop is a group of writers that discuss, evaluate, and make suggestions for the improvement of each other’s work. These discussions are led and moderated by your instructor, who is an experienced workshop leader. Your workshop group meets every day during SWI.
For example, if you have written a short story, and you're not really happy with it, but can't quite put your finger on what is wrong, you may put the story up for workshop. Each participant, plus your instructor, will read photocopy of your story and then provide the suggestions and comments for workshop discussion the next day.
5. Where do I park?
Daily parking permits cost $5, and may be purchased at the Office of Parking Services or the Campus Bookstore. Please visit http://parking.wustl.edu/visitor.htm for further details.
6. Can SWI count towards my certificate in Creative Writing?
Yes. Please visit http://ucollege.wustl.edu/areas/arts_sciences/cert_creative_writing for further details.
