Bisiayo E. Fashemi is a Ph.D. candidate in the Developmental, Regenerative, and Stem Cell Biology Program at Washington University in St Louis. Her research focuses on identifying molecular mechanisms that drive rapid bladder epithelium regeneration following injury; with special emphasis on studying regeneration following Urinary Tract Infections in females. Bisiayo received her Bachelor’s of Science in Biochemistry from Union College, where she was a recipient of the Posse Scholarship. Bisiayo has a passion for graduate student advocacy, which has led her to serve as Co-Chair of the Graduate Student Advisory Committee. She has been involved in a number of volunteer work, such as mentoring undergraduates in lab, as well as mentoring/tutoring high school students during the summer as a part of the Young Scientist Program. Ultimately, Bisiayo aims to become a physician-scientist where she hopes to better the lives of women around the world, by improving our understanding of how sex-differences can impact commonly used therapies and treatments.
