Entering Year: 2015

Hometown: Dennery, Saint Lucia

Andy was born and raised on the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia and came to the US to pursue a bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Via a summer assistantship at Johns Hopkins University, he was also exposed to public health research. Following graduation in 2013, he moved to the Weill Medical College of Cornell University as a research technician in the Department of Neurological Surgery. His work resulted in co-authored publications on brain mapping, epilepsy and neurovascular coupling. This experience confirmed his desire to pursue graduate education in order to develop novel devices to diagnose and treat neurological disorders in addition to improving healthcare services in underserved communities. When free, Andy is an avid reader and dabbles in poetry and drawing.
