Somatic Studies Cerfiticate Progam at Wash U

In the fall of 2007 I became coordinator of the new Somatic Studies Certificate Program in University College, Washington University's continuing education school.  It comprises coursework that is primarily experiential, movement oriented in nature. The program launches with a new course I facilitated called Introduction to Somatic with 15 guest lecturers and teachers, covering topics related to the body, from Yoga and the Alexander technique, to evolution, anthropology, religious studies, and education.  It was a fantastic course for all of us, me included, getting such a broad spectrum of ideas and experiences about human movement and being.

An opinion article I was invited to contribute to the Fontiers in Neurology research topic forum on "Sound, Music and Movement in Parkinson Disease." I share experiences of dancing with elders living with degenerative disease, and suggestions to researchers for further investigation from the experiential point of view.
