Attendance & Grading Policy

MedPrep I is Pass/Fail.

Class attendance is required.

Because MedPrep I is pass/fail and there are no homework assignments or exams, class attendance is required. Starting in the Fall 2018 semester, the attendance policy will be as follows:

  • All students will be permitted to miss a total of 2 classes during the semester for any reason.
  • Students do NOT need to ask for permission to miss either of these 2 classes. They will simply be marked absent when attendance is taken.
  • A third absence will result in a grade of "Incomplete" in the course and the student will be required to make up one of the three missed class session in a future semester before a passing grade will be placed on the transcript. This applies even in situations of illness or emergency.
  • Every additional absence more than the allowed 2 absences will also need to be made up in a future semester before a passing grade will be assigned. So, for example, if a student misses 4 classes, they will need to make up 2 of the 4 missed classes in a future semester.
  • Students must be present for both hours of class in order to get credit for attendance. If a student leaves class early, they will be counted absent. In some sessions attendance will be taken during the second hour as well.
  • Attendance will be taken using the Participatr system which utilizes an alternating 4-digit code that students will enter through the main webpage or via text. Any attempt to pass along the code to a fellow student who is not present in class or to falsely record one's attendance (e.g. signing in and then leaving) will result in a failure in the course and filing of an institutional action report on the student(s) involved.

Given that only 2 absences from class are permitted in either course, students are strongly encouraged to save these for illness or emergency.
