Application Timeline and Details

Application instructions for the Fall 2018 program are detailed below.

The pre-application process for the Fall 2018 Global MedPrep Scholars Program will open on October 1, 2017. Students interested in the program must first complete a brief pre-application form before starting on the main application. Students may link to the pre-application and the main application by clicking on the respective red buttons to the right (the buttons will not appear until the respective start dates). The main application will open on November 1, 2017 and will close on February 1, 2018. Again, all students MUST complete the pre-application BEFORE starting on the main application. Applicantions without the pre-application will not be considered.

Students will have a full 3 months (11/1/17-2/1/18) to complete the application and submit the supporting documents before interviews take place and any final decisions are made. The entire application, including ALL of the supporting documents, must be submitted by the February 1, 2018 deadline in order to be considered. No extensions will be granted.

Because of the importance of the interview in this process, all efforts will be made to interview every applicant. After all parts of the application have been received, the applicant will be sent a link where they can schedule their interview. All interviews will take place in February 2018. Students will be notified of the final decision on March 1, 2018.

Several information sessions about the program will be offered starting in October. To know when the latest information session will be held, simply check under the "Announcements" section on the homepage of this website. Students who have completed a pre-application will also be notified of these dates by email.

Application Timeline:

  • October 1: Pre-Application process opens. All applicants must complete the pre-application.
  • November 1: Main application opens.
  • February 1: Deadline for main application (including all supporting materials).
  • February 1-28: Interviews take place.
  • March 1: Applicants are notified of the decision.
Below is a step-by-step guide to make sure the application process to the GMPSP goes smoothly:
  1. Complete the pre-application form by clicking on the red button in the right hand margin of this page. This button will be present on the start date. This is the FIRST thing you must do. This step MUST be done before moving to the main application.
  2. Click on the red "Apply Here" button to the right to complete the main application. Did you complete the pre-application first? If not, please do so before moving on to the main application.
  3. You will be taken to the web page below. This is the portal for the main application. Click on the "Apply Now" button as seen in the screen shot below. You may have to scroll upwards on the page to see the section below.

  4. Once you have accessed the online application you will have a number of items to complete. Some of these items are supporting documents that you will physically hand in (PDFs are imbedded in the application portal that you will print, complete, and hand in to the Office of Overseas Programs). These include:

    - Fudan Application & Language Partner Preference Form
    - Language Evaluation*
    - Passport Photo (1)

If you have had no prior language experience, you are still required to submit the language evaluation form (where you can indicate that you have had no previous coursework) but are not required to hand in the bottom half of the form (to be filled out by a language faculty member). If you have had language background, but perhaps not academic language coursework, you will still need to have the evaluation completed (including the bottom half) so we know which level you will be placed.

  5. The other part of the application consists of online requirements submitted through your own portal. Most of these questionnaires simply require a yes/no response with space available to provide additional detail if necessary. These include:

    - Two WU online recommendations *
    - Academic Goals **
    - GPA Advisor Assessment FERPA

    - GPA Disclosure
    - GPA Statement
    - Language Preparation
    - Passport Confirmation of Validity
    - Passport Photocopy
    - Personal Information
    - Program Eligibility Requirement
    - Shanghai Internship ***
    - Statement of Community and Cultural Engagement **
    - WU Disciplinary Record
    - WU Study Plan ****

    * The WU online recommendation is simply a checklist for your references to complete.

** These are both essays (under 500 words).

*** This requirement does not apply to students applying to the Global MedPrep Scholars Program. Applicants should type "N/A - Applying to GMPSP" in the space provided.

**** If you wish to gain major or minor credit from the courses, you will need to meet with the departmental advisor in the respective department(s): http://overseas.wustl.edu/advisors/directory. If you are interested in Global Health & Environment, you should meet with the Anthropology advisor, Alyse Kuhlman.
If you do not wish to gain major or minor credit but possibly distribution area credit only, do not turn in this form as part of your application—you will work on this with Overseas Programs during your pre-departure meetings.

  6. That's it. We recommend that you start on this application early contact your two WU professors early to have them complete your online recommendation. If you have any questions about the application process, please contact:
