Anthropology
Entering Year: 2014

Savannah Martin graduated from Dartmouth College in June of 2014 with a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and Psychology. She is currently a PhD student in anthropology and is interested in the development of chronic diseases in an environment of poverty. Born in Springfield, Oregon and a member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, she hopes to use her research to benefit her tribe, and to explore how psychosocial stress can effect epigenetic changes that result in obesity and diabetes in Native American communities. She was recently awarded Honorable Mention from the National Science Foundation for a project that proposed a comparison of short-term health outcomes of traditional and governmentally-subsidized diets on her tribal homelands in Siletz, Oregon.
